Thiravellattu Maholsavam
is the main festival of Bhagawan Chathan Swami. Different musical
instruments are played in this festival. Persons called perumannan are
playing an important role in this festival. They will make ‘roopakalam’
with different powders. This roopakalam is considered to be the supreme
soul of Bhagwan. Near this they will sketch godmother Koolivaga also. On
the very morning of this festival, they will perform ‘Kalashabhishekam’.
They will decorate Bhagwan’s idol with different garlands. They will
perform archanas and poojas hereafter.
The most beautiful sight of this festival is the spectacular procession
of Bhagawan. Panchavadyam, musical instruments like chenda, ezhara,
thakil all these are played here. Devakal as Kavidiyattam, Karakattam,
Mayooranritham, Mayilpeelithookam all are performed then. Bhagawan’s
supreme idol is displayed to the public then. The problems of different
people are heard and solved in this festival, all the evil spirits that
are overpowered by Sri. Vishnumaya Chathan Swami are handed over to
‘Malanayadi Moorthi’-thereby the end of this festival.

Malanayadi Nritham
This is the closing ceremony
of Thiravellattu maholsavam. All the evil spirits are invoked into a
cock by means of manthras. After this poojas, they will perform a
particular dance called ‘Malanayadi Nritham’. The neck of the cock which
was invoked by the evil spirits is then bitten and the blood thereafter
is drank by malanayadi. Through this ceremony all the evil spirits are
believed to be destroyed. After this ceremony, the malanayadi was bade
festival. That is the end of this maholsavam.
